The DECARS Foundation (Dutch Expertise Centre for Archaeological Remote Sensing) is an independent non-commercial networking organisation, founded by Dutch archaeologists and a historical-geographer. DECARS is convinced that archaeological remote sensing methods and techniques should be integrated more in archaeological research that is applied by Dutch archaeologists, whether in The Netherlands or in other countries.
DECARS also thinks that there is a platform for such a network in The Netherlands, as these non-destructive research methods are often not integrated as a standard procedure in Dutch archaeological research. This is partly due to lacking expertise and to the fact that the added value of remote sensing in archaeology is not yet fully acknowledged in our country.
Based on their own knowledge and expertise and on examples of successfully integrated remote sensing research in other countries, the DECARS members are fully aware of this added value.
